Public schools in Fort Lauderdale are run by Broward County Public Schools, the countywide district governed by the elected School Board of Broward County, not by the city. The district’s main number is 754-321-0000.
School zones do not follow city limits. Most of Fort Lauderdale is zoned for schools inside the city, but the north of the city is zoned for Northeast High in Oakland Park, parts of the northwest for Boyd H. Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes and a corner of the west for South Plantation High in Plantation. Several elementary and middle schools in neighboring cities also take in Fort Lauderdale streets. Check any address with the district’s Find My School tool before you buy or rent. Each school below links to its own page with its zone, feeder schools, report card, calendar and contacts.

How the city divides by high school zone
Share of Fort Lauderdale’s area in each high school’s attendance zone, from Broward County’s boundary map data and city limits map:
| High school zone | Share of the city’s area |
|---|---|
| Boyd H. Anderson High | 6% |
| Dillard 6-12 | 8% |
| Fort Lauderdale High | 39% |
| Northeast High | 17% |
| South Plantation High | 3% |
| Stranahan High | 26% |
At the middle school level, Sunrise Middle covers about 39% of the city, New River Middle 24% and William Dandy Middle 6%. The rest is zoned for middle schools in neighboring cities: James S. Rickards in Oakland Park (11%), Parkway in Lauderhill (7%), Lauderdale Lakes (7%) and Pompano Beach Middle (4%), plus the small Dillard Elementary area, whose students attend Dillard 6-12 from sixth grade. Elementary zones based outside the city cover nearly a fifth of it, mostly Cypress Elementary in Pompano Beach (7%), and Lloyd Estates (5%) and McNab (4%) elementaries.
What changed this year
On Jan. 21, 2026, the School Board consolidated North Fork Elementary into Croissant Park, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall and Walker elementaries, and Seagull Alternative High School into Whiddon-Rogers Education Center, according to the district’s May 12 Redefining Our Schools update (PDF). Both schools were in Fort Lauderdale. The county’s boundary map data still draws the old North Fork zone; the district’s 2026-27 zone maps are the authority.
In the next round, the district has proposed moving William Dandy Middle’s students into Parkway Middle, with options presented Oct. 6 that would instead return Dillard 6-12 to grades 9-12. The School Board’s final vote is set for Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Enrollment below is the district’s count on Aug. 21, 2026, the 10th day of the 2026-27 school year. The grade is Florida’s 2026 A to F school grade with the share of possible points the school earned; each grade links to the school’s state report card. Addresses are in Fort Lauderdale unless another city is named. Tables are in alphabetical order.

Other district centers
Whiddon-Rogers Education Center, 700 SW 26th St., is the district’s center for middle and high school students who need to recover credits or want a different route to a diploma, with career programs and adult education. It had 401 students in grades 7 to 12 on the Aug. 21 count and has no zone or state letter grade. The district also teaches students in the county’s juvenile detention center and through its hospital homebound program; those are not listed here.
Enrollment by school
District schools only, from the district’s Tenth Day Enrollment Count. Countywide, the count was 223,890 students including charter schools, 12,658 fewer than a year earlier. Calendars, registration and School Board details are in our Fort Lauderdale schools guide.
Private schools
Private schools with a Fort Lauderdale address inside the city limits in the federal Private School Survey, as each is named there, with grades as reported to the survey. Schools with a Fort Lauderdale mailing address in Davie, Lauderdale Lakes, Tamarac and other cities are left out. A website is listed where we could confirm it. Being on this list says nothing about a school’s accreditation.
