Fort Lauderdale’s three nearest neighbors that are cities are Wilton Manors (about 1 mile from Fort Lauderdale’s center), Oakland Park (about 3 miles) and Lauderdale Lakes (about 4 miles). All four are in Broward County and share the county government, the school district and most special taxing districts, so the differences come down to each city’s own tax rate, services and housing. This page sets out the official figures side by side, one table per topic. It does not rank the cities.

Property tax rates

Each city sets its own operating rate. The Broward County Property Appraiser’s 2026 proposed vs 2025 final operating millages report (PDF) lists them for every taxing body. One mill is $1 of tax per $1,000 of taxable value.

City 2025 final operating rate 2026 proposed rate
Fort Lauderdale 4.1193 4.1193
Oakland Park 5.6979 5.6799
Wilton Manors 6.2270 6.0000
Lauderdale Lakes 8.6000 8.6000

Fort Lauderdale’s City Commission adopted 4.1193 mills for fiscal year 2027 on Sept. 14, 2026, with a separate debt service rate; see our property taxes guide. Property inside the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority’s district also pays that authority’s rate, 0.6111 mills in 2025. Rates for the bills that go out Nov. 1 are final only after each city’s September hearings.

The whole bill. The appraiser’s millage table gives the combined 2025 rate of every taxing body for each city’s millage code:

Population, income and commute

From the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimates, the same release for all four cities (QuickFacts: Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes):

City Population Median household income Median value, owner-occupied homes Mean travel time to work
Fort Lauderdale 185,604 $83,130 $486,700 26.1 minutes
Wilton Manors 11,511 $85,392 $589,200 26.5 minutes
Oakland Park 44,682 $72,708 $385,000 25.5 minutes
Lauderdale Lakes 36,404 $50,006 $214,100 27.4 minutes

The Census median home value is what owners estimate their homes are worth, averaged over five years, so it does not match Zillow’s current index.
