Lauderhill mover Cousins USA has raised $5,438 this October for breast cancer research, starting with its third Toss Away Cancer cornhole tournament in Sunrise.

Cousins USA Moving & Storage, the Lauderhill moving company, has raised $5,438 for breast cancer research so far during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with the rest of October still to go.

“We’ve raised $5,438 so far and still have the remainder of the month to hit our goal,” said Joseph Pollio Jr., director of sales and marketing for Cousins USA.

A cornhole tournament in Sunrise

The company opened this year’s month of fundraising on Oct. 3 with its third annual Toss Away Cancer Cornhole Tournament in Sunrise. Robert Mink and Nick Theodoropoulos won the tournament, and the money raised went to breast cancer research.

Cousins USA was then the official moving sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Broward County walk on Saturday, Oct. 17. The American Cancer Society event started at 7 a.m. at Amerant Bank Arena, 1 Panther Parkway, Sunrise. Its fundraising page showed $776,241.80 raised toward a $1 million goal when we checked on Oct. 19.

Why the family does it

The company has raised money for breast cancer research for three years, and has raised nearly $15,000 in that time, it says.

The reason is personal. Eight years ago the Pollio family, who founded Cousins USA, lost their cousin Filemena to breast cancer. She helped the family grow the local moving business in the 1980s and 1990s.

In a 2025 Instagram post, the company set out why it keeps going:

“Not a day goes by that we don’t think of her, but every October we make it our mission to honor her legacy. … We raise money, we spread awareness, and we come together as a community, all to keep her spirit alive.”

How to give

The Broward County Making Strides page, run by the American Cancer Society, still had its donate button open on Oct. 19. More on the company and its fundraising is at cousinsusa.com.
